This seems to brazenly take all its visual design from Donkey Kong Country Returns, right down to copying that game’s enemies.

  Burning_Spear

  2Burning_SpearWed 24th Feb 2021

”Running, jumping, sliding, and gliding” look more like osmosis in a Petri dish. Is the trailer trying to simulate online lag?

  MatoFilipovic

  3MatoFilipovicWed 24th Feb 2021

Oof… that is a bit too close to Donkey Kong to feel comfortable. Reminds me of Cuphead/Magic Portals situation.

If the gameplay is good I will buy it.

  Camjo-Z

  5Camjo-ZWed 24th Feb 2021

Even the music sounds like it’s taking some “inspiration” with that lawyer-friendly version of Wario’s Gold Mine.

  7

  Jakiboy

  6JakiboyWed 24th Feb 2021

Might get if it reviews well. Remember not all rip-offs are bad~

It’s like having two of the same cakes, just the one that came later looks cheaply decorated…

  Kang81

  7Kang81Wed 24th Feb 2021

Looks like an auto runner mobile game as well, just converted to Switch. Not that there haven’t been some good ones.

  2

  sixrings

  8sixringsWed 24th Feb 2021

The frame rate looks all over the place.

  2

  Crockin

  9CrockinWed 24th Feb 2021

i got excited then realized it was dkc reboot vibes, not dkc classic

  7

  brunojenso

  10brunojensoWed 24th Feb 2021

Still hoping Donkey Kong Country will get an official and graceful move into 3D one day soon. If Mario can so can DK.

Regarding this – well there is a lot of polish on show, and the all important physics look good. Frame rate is in need of work. But I’m intrigued.

I’m interested but wish Stitchy wasn’t so freaking creepy looking.

  Buckyooliver

  12BuckyooliverWed 24th Feb 2021

eVery game looks the same as something else , most of the new gen games are reboots anyway everything looks the same

  1

  Tangerine

  13TangerineWed 24th Feb 2021

Mine carts, barrel cannons you fire from, corn collectable even looks like bananas. Seems like a rip off. Not sure how to feel to be honest!

  4

  Isaix

  14IsaixWed 24th Feb 2021

Looks like DKCR but slower and more zoomed in…..

  3

  Dragonslacker1

  15Dragonslacker1Wed 24th Feb 2021

I still got tropical freeze to play properly on switch again so I will stick with that when I need it xx

Something about it looks a little stiff but it might be fun.

  3

  Polygoat

  17PolygoatWed 24th Feb 2021

I’m the developer and half of the team that created Stitchy in Tooki Trouble. This game was definitely inspired by the great Donkey Kong, and we hear your concerns. I can assure you the game runs at a steady 60fps, docked and handheld.

Please keep in mind this was created by a two-man team, there is only so much time we can spend on a game and trailers. But we do appreciate your feedback

  18

  depwnz

  18depwnzWed 24th Feb 2021

The game in the trailer looks and runs like a 3DS game. This is actually a compliment.

  19BobbyAtomicWed 24th Feb 2021

They aren’t even trying to be subtle.

  2

  Muddy_4_Ever

  20Muddy_4_EverWed 24th Feb 2021

They can mimic… but these clones NEVER get the nuance of movement and insanely intricate level design of the originals.

  2

  Kreko

  21KrekoWed 24th Feb 2021

ffs this is shameless DK ripoff

hope nintendo sues these lazy *****

Looks like a fun platformer. Can never have too many….

  3

  Aerona

  23AeronaWed 24th Feb 2021

Platforming seems slow and maybe a little floaty.

  1

  Handy_Man

  24Handy_ManWed 24th Feb 2021

@Polygoat I appreciate the developer themselves reaching out here in the comments. I wish you success going forward, we can always use more great 2D platforming games.

  7

  Ghost_of_Hasashi

  25Ghost_of_HasashiWed 24th Feb 2021

As long as it’s not an endless runner platformer I will give it a try. Super Meat Boy Forever’s mistake was going that route.

  1

  Friendly

  26FriendlyWed 24th Feb 2021

It looks a bit as if it’s an auto-runner?

  0

  Bearzilla823

  27Bearzilla823Wed 24th Feb 2021

considering Nintendo isn’t making another DK game anytime soon this might scratch that itch.

  2

  dw4smash

  28dw4smashWed 24th Feb 2021

Looks cool but hope it will be good. If the reviews are good i will definetely buy this

  0

  everynowandben

  29everynowandbenWed 24th Feb 2021

Looks slow and floaty – pretty much the opposite of DKC, which is known for being heavy and momentum focused.

  2

  Snatcher

  30SnatcherWed 24th Feb 2021

Saying strong DK vibes is really watering it down. its the same game with a scarecrow mode on it.

  3

  Darkyoshi98

  31Darkyoshi98Wed 24th Feb 2021

  I’ll be buying it

  1

  Qwertyninty

  32QwertynintyWed 24th Feb 2021

  Damn they have no shame.

  1

  MattyHammo

  33MattyHammoWed 24th Feb 2021

Not sure if it’s the frame rate but gameplay looks really slow. They need to double the speed to make it look fun.

  1

  Stargazer

  34StargazerWed 24th Feb 2021

  Looks terrible!

  0

  antonio2244

  35antonio2244Wed 24th Feb 2021

This looks really bad. And you should stop using DK to describe new platformers. Last time you did it was with Jet Kave Adventure and look how that turned out. All these games have nothing to do with DK quality, even that awful 2D Looka-Yaylee

  0

  DTFaux

  36DTFauxWed 24th Feb 2021

I’m hoping for the best for the devs, but I always worry when aesthetics look a bit too similar to other, still active, games/franchises.

It might just be that I’m a big stickler for games having their own identities. I fully understand that good designs are emulated for a reason, but it can backfire if it leans too hard on its inspiration. Like, if I really wanted to play something like DKCR… I’d just load up DKCR.

  3

  Paraka

  37ParakaWed 24th Feb 2021

Jet Kave Adventure ripped off DKC better, and it’s actually fun.

  This is just clunky looking.

  0

  Snatcher

  38SnatcherWed 24th Feb 2021

If yall want a DK county game just buy TF or get YL the impossible lair.

  1

  sixrings

  39sixringsWed 24th Feb 2021

@Polygoat the Frame rate looked off on the eshop video. If it runs at 60fps I’ll be super interested. It does look good.

  2

  PortuGuy

  40PortuGuyThu 25th Feb 2021

The developers took a scarecrow, a thing typically found on a farm and transported him to a land- let’s just call it DK Isle, to fight tropical monsters and collect corn cobs?

  1

  TheBigK

  41TheBigKThu 25th Feb 2021

No I’m old and don’t want new experiences, I’d much rather play Donkey Kong Country for the 100,000th time

  2

  Chamver

  42ChamverThu 25th Feb 2021

Looks great but the movement seems super slow. They need to speed that up.

  1

  JaxonH

  43JaxonHTue 30th Mar 2021

Eh. I’ll stick with DKC. The music is not great here. That makes all the difference

  0

  GrailUK

  44GrailUKTue 30th Mar 2021

I would be happy if it was just vibes, but this is a blatent rip off.

  0

  Andy_Witmyer

  45Andy_WitmyerTue 30th Mar 2021

For this game having been made by only two people, I think it looks pretty good. And I appreciate the fact that their game is an open homage to DKC. I’ve seen games that almost criminally rip off their source material without acknowledging it while pretending as though their game is entirely original.

I dunno, I think it’s kind of lame to just dismiss a game based upon it’s influences. As for graphics? Again – it’s a two person team. It’s not like they have an immense studio behind them. Go easy.

  2

  RudyC3

  46RudyC3Tue 30th Mar 2021

Looks nice enough to me and if this is Switch footage, seems smooth enough too. Game seems a wee bit slow though, like the character is only walking, never running or something.

  2

  Dr_Lugae

  47Dr_LugaeTue 30th Mar 2021

Looks like a reskin of DKCR me. Its OK to be inspired by something. But if you’re taking the exact gameplay, visual style and just swapping out an Ape for a Scarecrow and swapping out bannas for corncobs, that’s uninspired.

There’s no unique voice or take.

Why does this game have Minecart levels? Did it make sense or is it only because DKC has it?

Why is a character made of cloth and straw crushing enemies? Because Donkey Kong can?

If the only point of the game is to invoke Donkey Kong, then I’ll play Donkey Kong. I’d be more interested if the gameplay actually fit the character instead of a bundle of straw stomping around like a 300lb Gorilla.

  2

  Isaix

  48IsaixTue 30th Mar 2021

Why is the game so slow? The speed of the DKC games is part of the fun and challenge

  2

  Dethmunk

  49DethmunkTue 30th Mar 2021

@Isaix I was thinking the same. Seems very slow and floaty in the mechanics department. You have to wonder how it feels to play, will it feel very responsive or a bit woolly? Hmmmm. Looks nice though I’ll give it that.

  3

  nmanifold

  50nmanifoldTue 30th Mar 2021

A complete Donkey Kong rip-off, only slower. But I’ll probably still buy it as the 2 Donkey Kong reboot games are 2 of my my favorites ever. I don’t mind the blatant ‘homage’ in this case.

  1

  OldManHermit

  51OldManHermitTue 30th Mar 2021

It really does look like DKC Returns. I’m all for bright and colourful platformers, but I’d love something more in the vein of DKC2. That game had an awesome dark and creepy atmosphere that has not been in any of the DKC games since. I want my decrepit bayous and run down circus’ dammit!

  2

  Low_ink

  52Low_inkTue 30th Mar 2021

The character looks too slow for my liking, but that could just be frame drops, in which case, ew.

Looks fun. I’m definitely buying it. Not that I need any more friggin games…

  55MizuTue 30th Mar 2021

  Hey guys

I’m the Artist at polygoat so the other half of the team.

I would just like to answer some of your comments,

Our goal with Stitchy was to develop a fun-for-all platformer which anyone could pick up and play (6y and up). It should serve as an initiation into harder games like DKC or Crash for the newer generation (who didn’t play the classics) and a fun nostalgia trip for the older generation.

If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask, i’ll answer them here ^^

This looks decent(ish) and I’m all for games with DKC vibes. I’ll have to keep this game in mind for a potential future purchase.

@Mizu what is the docked resolution of this game?

  1

  Mizu

  60MizuTue 30th Mar 2021

@sixrings its 1920×1080 at 60 fps and it schould be without framedrops ^^

  0

  sixrings

  61sixringsTue 30th Mar 2021

@Mizu well that makes me excited. I know you said this was for ages six and up. For context I finished super Mario bros when I was six. Most games are made easier than that now. Is this more like the recent yoshi and Kirby games or is there more of a DKTF difficulty level.

  1

  Mizu

  62MizuTue 30th Mar 2021

@sixrings It’s going to be harder than the Kirby and Yoshi games but not as hard as DKTF it’s definitely in between those two but more towards the Yoshi and Kirby games . The first two worlds aren’t too hard and once you reach the second bossfight it gets a bit harder. Hope that helps!

@Mizu I’m wondering what went into your decision to have a relatively large player character (or to have a close-in focus on the character). These days, most platformers of this kind use their screen real estate to show more environment and smaller character models.

  1

  Mizu

  65MizuThu 1st Apr 2021

@COVIDberry In other platformers, they use the broad view because they have really challenging platforming so the player can mentally prepare for the upcoming challenge and plan ahead, but Stitchy is relatively easy compared to these games really hard platformers so that’s why we decided to have a more focused camera on Stitchy, hope that helps a little ^^

@Mizu Yes, I see what you mean. Thanks!
