When Halloween night arrives on Oct. 31, after 5 p.m., neighbors will gather in the plaza, which will be adorned with an array of Halloween decorations. You’ll also receive a visit from a mysterious guest, Jack, the “czar of Halloween.”

By giving Jack lollipops and candy, you’ll earn spooky in-game rewards. Be sure to save some candy for your neighbors, too, or you might get pranked!

The information below is based on Animal Crossing: New Leaf and will be updated for New Horizons.

October 1st, Jack, the “Czar” of Halloween shows up in your town and asks if you would be willing to serve him on the 31st of October by scaring the towns people in a “Scary” costume. When you agree he proceeds to give you a monster mask.

After this he tells you that you can collect more scary costumes at the?Able Sisters?shop. These are at a fixed price of 1,031?Bells,?so you know which?items?are part of the event. Keep your eye out for them throughout the month.

The Scaring event begins at 6:00 PM on October 31st. Talk to the?villagers?outside to play minigames for?Candy?(or offer them Candy from your inventory). Here are the minigames you can play to win Candy:

Rock-paper-scissors – The classic game.?Villagers?choose randomly.Made-ya-look – Look the same way as a villager using the D-pad and you will win. Again, random.Charades – You can actually win this. Follow the villagers’ clues and choose the answer based on their?emotions?and clues. Some correct answers include Fireplace, Superhero and Teapot.

If you lose the minigame, you won’t have to give up candy, but you might be given a pumpkin mask, or have a floor or?wallpaper?in your?house?changed. You also might get a piece of common?furniture.

You can also enter villager’s houses to attempt to scare them with a mask. Villagers are only scared by specific masks, and you can give candy to the outdoors villagers to find out who is scared by what.

Scare a villager in his or her?house?and she will give you a?Lollipop.

You can trade Candy and Lollipops to Jack for prizes, including the Halloween-themed/Spooky?furniture?and?other?monster masks.

Jack will appear in a different place after ever candy transaction so you’ll have to hunt him down. A great way to get a better chance of finding Jack is by barricading everyone’s house by digging holes around the door.

To get Lollipops, which you can trade for the best rare furniture, you must scare animals in their houses. You can give candy to outdoor villagers to find out who is scared of which mask, or you can use the table below.
